BSA/385 - Intro to Software Engineering
Course Description
This course introduces the fundamental, logical, and design considerations addressed during system and application software development. It provides a background in applications software development and testing techniques through a combination of theory and application.
This undergraduate course is 5 weeks.

Course Objectives
Week 1
- Illustrate the software development process and development trends.
- Describe the phases of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Examine characteristics of software requirements used to guide the software development process.
Week 2
- Describe what system architecture is.
- Examine software design principles.
- Compare and contrast conditions that determine the application design and project management approach.
- Prepare a functional requirements document.
Week 3
- Compare and contrast software management tools.
- Specify design quality and metrics.
- Complete technical design specifications.
- Illustrate implementation techniques.
Week 4
- Appraise Quality Assurance (QA) and security management in the software process.
- Summarize software configuration management.
Week 5
- Compare and contrast software testing techniques.
- Differentiate test automation tools.
- Determine the software testing environment.
- Develop a software testing plan.
