HIS/511 - U.S. Constitution
Course Description
This course is a study of the creation, application, and viability of the United States Constitution. Participants examine the Constitution's historical and philosophical origins to better understand its original intent, evolution, and current usage, specifically through its interpretation in changing social and political climates. Emphasis is on the Constitution’s influence on education in the United States.
This graduate course is 2 weeks.

Attendance and participation are mandatory in all university courses, and specific requirements may differ by course. If attendance requirements are not met, a student may be removed from the course. Please review the Course Attendance Policy in the Catalog for more information.
This course is not available for enrollment to residents of Alabama, Arkansas, and Kentucky.

The United States Constitution: Historical and Philosophical Roots
- Describe the ideas and events that led to the development of the United States Constitution.
- Summarize the impact of the Articles of Confederation on the United States Constitution.
- Explain the importance of the United States Constitution as an evolving and viable document.
- Define the concepts of judicial review and judicial power.
- Analyze the power of the executive branch.
- Analyze the power of the legislative branch.
- Describe the process to amend the Constitution.
The United States Constitution: Effect on Education
- Analyze how the evolving Constitution has affected education.
- Identify constitutional law that affects students.
- Identify constitutional law that affects teachers.
