Course Description

This course introduces the fundamental, logical, and design considerations addressed during system and application software development. It provides a background in applications software development and testing techniques through a combination of theory and application.

This undergraduate course is 5 weeks.

Course Objectives

Week 1

  • Illustrate the software development process and development trends.
  • Describe the phases of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC). 
  • Examine characteristics of software requirements used to guide the software development process. 

Week 2

  • Describe what system architecture is. 
  • Examine software design principles. 
  • Compare and contrast conditions that determine the application design and project management approach. 
  • Prepare a functional requirements document. 

Week 3

  • Compare and contrast software management tools. 
  • Specify design quality and metrics. 
  • Complete technical design specifications. 
  • Illustrate implementation techniques. 

Week 4

  • Appraise Quality Assurance (QA) and security management in the software process. 
  • Summarize software configuration management. 

Week 5

  • Compare and contrast software testing techniques. 
  • Differentiate test automation tools. 
  • Determine the software testing environment. 
  • Develop a software testing plan.
