CIS/293 - Network Troubleshooting and Support
Course Description
This course provides an introduction to computer networking, network troubleshooting and desktop support. Topics include networking design and implementation. CIS/293 provides hands on practice troubleshooting hardware and desktop support issues aligned with entry-level desktop support. This course, and CIS/291, are aligned with the requirements of the CompTIA A+ 220-1101 exam.
This undergraduate course is 5 weeks.

Course Objectives
Week 1
- Install components within the display of a laptop.
- Troubleshoot video, projector, and display issues.
Week 2
- Install components within the display of a laptop.
- Troubleshoot video, projector, and display issues.
Week 3
- Compare common networking hardware devices, wireless networking protocols, and configuration concepts.
- Install and configure a basic wired/wireless SOHO network.
- Compare the features of Internet connection types and network types.
- Identify common connector types.
Week 4
- Compare TCP and UDP ports, protocols, and their purposes.
- Identify the properties and purposes of services provided by networked hosts.
- Use appropriate networking tools.
- Troubleshoot common wired and wireless network problems.
Week 5
- Explain the purposes and uses of various peripheral types.
- Configure appropriate components for a custom PC configuration to meet customer specifications or needs.
- Compare cloud computing concepts.
- Configure client-side virtualization.
