CMGT/582 - Security & Ethics
Course Description
The ethical issues examined in the course include information privacy, accessibility, and ownership from an organizational perspective. Information laws, regulations, and compliance requirements are examined in this course, as well as the considerations for creating a safe digital environment within the organization.
This graduate course is 6 weeks.

Course Objectives
Week 1
- Analyze the components of information security.
- Illustrate the role of ethics in information security.
Week 2
- Assess ethical issues related to data and information management.
- Examine the need to protect intellectual property.
Week 3
- Analyze the ethical trends behind consumer and corporate privacy.
- Examine ethical considerations for maintaining confidentiality and customer/individual data.
- Describe the various privacy regulations.
Week 4
- Explain the relationship between policies and security plans.
- Analyze how risk assessment is related to security controls and safeguards.
Week 5
- Evaluate risk mitigation strategies.
- Summarize the concept of multilevel or defense security design.
Week 6
- Evaluate the security life cycle.
- Create a security audit with an IT recruiting plan.
