Course Description

This course explores the critical role of human resources in achieving business results. The course will help students to have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of human resource management and its strategic relevance in business today. This course will provide students with a critical perspective on the development of human capital in the context of a unified system of attracting, retaining and developing talent that creates and supports the vision and values of the organization. Students will develop an understanding of the critical business implications for human resource professionals today.

This undergraduate course is 5 weeks.

Course Objectives

HR Structure and its Role in the Organization

  • Explain the role and functions of human resources management (HRM) within an organization.

Legal and Ethical Issues in HR Management

  • Evaluate the responsibilities of human resources (HR) to investigate and address legal and ethical issues.
  • Research and apply laws, regulations, policies, and compliance resources to develop HR procedures and resolve HR matters.

Recruitment Techniques for HR Professionals

  • Explain the role of HR in strategic planning, employee recruitment and selection, and talent management for an organization.

Training and Development

  • Assess the benefits of employee training and development to organizational growth and performance.

Total Rewards for Human Resources

  • Assess how compensation and benefit plans can be used to improve performance and motivate and retain employees.
