Course Description

This course allows students to explore the competencies of successful managers to understand the functions of business. Students develop an increased awareness of management theories, business processes, and of their own perceptions and values in order to manage and communicate with others more effectively. Other topics include graduate business program goals, argument construction, decision making, collaboration, and academic research.

This graduate course is 6 weeks.

Course Objectives

Introduction to Business Management

  • Analyze the evolving role and concepts of management.
  • Assess the function and challenges of management in organizations.


  • Analyze the fundamentals of the planning process.


  • Explore organizational culture, structure, and design as the building blocks of an organization.
  • Assess the factors involved in organizational change.


  • Differentiate among leadership theories.
  • Analyze the leadership function within the management role.


  • Align control systems with business strategy to manage performance, productivity, and quality.
  • Employ control processes and tools to establish standards and measure performance.

The Changing Management Environment

  • Assess change management and innovation.
  • Examine factors affecting the manager’s role in the changing business environment.


This graduate level course requires proof of completion of a Bachelor's degree. Be prepared to provide documentation during the checkout process.
