SPED/560 - Teaching Learners with Disabilities
Course Description
This course is designed for educators to investigate current disabilities and strategies for a variety of different content areas in order to implement best practices. Participants investigate different teaching methods correlating with various disabilities/abilities in the PK-12 setting. Participants have the opportunity to specifically gear their learning based on interests, content area, and grade level with specific emphasis on best practices and current trends.
This graduate course is 2 weeks.

Attendance and participation are mandatory in all university courses, and specific requirements may differ by course. If attendance requirements are not met, a student may be removed from the course. Please review the Course Attendance Policy in the Catalog for more information.
This course is not available for enrollment to residents of Alabama, Arkansas, and Kentucky.
Course Objectives
Differentiating Instruction for All Learners
- Identify the dimensions of effective educational practice.
- Explore the changing school population.
- Apply types of curriculum development.
- Adapt lesson plans for differentiated instruction.
Accommodating All Learners
- Identify common characteristics of learners with disabilities.
- Identify different stages of development for learners with disabilities.
- Illustrate how to provide accommodations for learners with disabilities.
- Identify appropriate assessments for learners with disabilities.
